I have noticed in my copy that the spell check doesn't work. No under line of words I misspell on purpose and clicking F7 or Check spelling does nothing.. Any ideas?

Assuming Windows Mail: Tools | Options | Spelling | Always check spelling before wending.

I think you need to have Word installed in order to be able to use spell check.

Vista or WinXP SP2?

Well, something is. To avoid installing an Office program, try one of these:
Free spellchecker. which I use on my laptop, which has Works. http://www.majorgeeks.com/article.php?sid=2952&cat=10A
$15 shareware http://www.spellchecker.com/
And here's a freeware that checks your spelling as you type: TinySpell http://www.megspace.com/computers/tinyspell/

That still does not explain why the spell checker is not working. I have the full version of MS Office installed so the spell checking feature should be available. This is on a WinXP SP2 + all updates, etc.

You might be missing CSAPI3T1.DLL in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PROOF
You can expand it from CSAPI3T1.DL_ in the \i386 directory on your WinXP CD. Go to Start | Run and type this command:
expand x:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL
Where X: is your CD drive. Then move it from the root directory of C: to the PROOF folder. Some people also have to put it in the Outlook Express program folder.

The registry key: SharedFilesDir does not exist on my system. Now what am I suppose to do? How do I create it?

In Regedit navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools Highlight Shared Tools and right click in the right-hand pane. Select New | String Value and give it the name SharedFilesDir and the value C:\\Program Files\Microsoft shared\
Do NOT forget the trailing backslash.
